Importance of Diwali - दिवाली कब और क्यूँ मनाई जाती है ?

India is known as a country of festivals. Diwali or Deepawali is the most important
festival in Hinduism and is celebrated with great enthusiasm in all corners of the world.
This auspicious festival is celebrated twenty days after Vijayadashmi on the new moon of Kartik Month.
It is also called " festival of lights". Apart from Hindus, it is celebrated by Jains and Sikhs.
The festival gives a strong messages of " victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance".
First ever it was celebrated by the people of kingdom of Ayodhya when their king Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana in Lanka. It was also his return from the 14 years exile.
Many days prior to Deepawali people starts getting their homes and workplaces decorated. The atmosphere becomes so pleasent these days.
On this day, Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped and people prays to the goddess to remove all obstacles in their lives and to offer them prosperity and happiness. Basically, It becomes a five day festival that starts with Dhanteras and ends with Bhaiya Dooj .
